This is not about money.

This is not about money.

Carole White insisted her account of how ex-Liberian president Charles Taylor gave Campbell the precious stones after the model flirted with him was the truth. She also claimed Campbell texted or phoned the African leader or his staff as she excitADVERTISEMENTedly waited for her present to arrive.Campbell told Taylor's war crimes trial in The Hague last week that she received the diamonds after a party hosted by Nelson Mandela in September 1997, but did not know who they came from.

The former president's legal team tore into Ms White's evidence yesterday in a heated cross-examination session at the Special Court for Sierra Leone in the Netherlands. They suggested she invented her story to support her $600,000 (¡ê375,935) legal dispute with Campbell over alleged unpaid royalties from a perfume deal.Ms White maintained she was telling the truth - but admitted she did not actually hear Taylor tell the south London-born model he would give her the diamonds.

Defence lawyer Courtenay Griffiths QC said to her: "I suggest that your account is a complete pack of lies, and you have made it up in order to assist in your lawsuit against Miss Campbell."Ms White replied: "It's totally the truth. It has nothing whatsoever to do with my business argument with Naomi Campbell."She added: "This is not about money, this is about a very serious matter and I am telling the truth."

Ms White, co-founder of Premier Model Management, was questioned about a witness statement in which she said she heard Taylor promising to give Campbell the diamonds at the dinner organised by Mandela in Pretoria, South Africa. She admitted yesterday that she did not hear him say he would make the gift. The case continues.MPUMinCharsCutOff:210 PageLength:1736MPUPositionFromStart:250 MPUPositionRange:1000hasVideoOrImage:False--->

Councillor Gordon Buchan.

Horrified ScottishPower engineers warned that it would make it impossible to restore electricity to thousands of city centre homes and businesses if there was a fault in the lines. The problem meant work on the outdoor element of the redevelopmentADVERTISEMENT had to stop while the cables were re-routed, pushing the project even further behind schedule.

The city council is now facing a race against time to get work finished before the start of the Edinburgh International Festival on Friday, with some parts of the job being put off until after it finishes. It was already estimated that the total cost of the refurbishment - originally estimated at ¡ê9 million - will rise to more than ¡ê30m, but the latest in a long line of complications threatens to push the cost up further.

Councillor Gordon Buchan, culture and leisure spokesman for the city's Conservative group, said: "It seems that, yet again, we have got another problem and yet again it has delayed the project further." Naomi Campbell's former agent has been accused of telling a "complete pack of lies" about a gift of alleged "blood diamonds" to the supermodel.

Many people are concerned about these delays.

Many people are concerned about these delays.

It is a concern that it seems like nobody has had proper design discussions with the utility companies, which has led to this problem. It is yet another worry for the project and I would be interested to hear how much more this will cost and where the money will come from."We know that money is tight and we cannot have a bottomless pit. Many people are concerned about these delays, especially since this is supposed to be the flagship venue for the international festival.

It does not bode well that the diggers are still outside this late in the day."The outdoor work, which was the final stage of the Usher Hall project, will see new landscaping that will link the venue with the neighbouring Traverse and Lyceum theatres and allow for pavement cafes and outdoor performances. ScottishPower sources say that after approving the council's plans last summer, its engineers visited the site in December to discover the contractor planned to pour reinforced concrete on top of its cables."

If you pour reinforced concrete on to our high-voltage cables it will be impossible to get to them if there's a power cut and we need to fix it," said the source.Council sources claim it was only after they suggested sinking the power cables further into the ground that ScottishPower insisted the cables be diverted.

The source admitted, however, that the contractors had been forced to supply more information to ScottishPower in December.MPUMinCharsCutOff:210 PageLength:2448MPUPositionFromStart:250 MPUPositionRange:1000hasVideoOrImage:False --->

Tests in adults found the technique picked up the condition.

A SIMPLE brain scan could help diagnose autistic adults and children in just 15 minutes, researchers believe. Scientists have developed a pioneering new method to identify areas in the brain that indicate if someone has autism, which can be a lengthy process to diagnose using current methods.Tests in adults found the technique picked up the condition witADVERTISEMENTh more than 90 per cent accuracy.

The team, from King's College London, hope that in future the method could lead to screening for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in children, making sure they can then be directed to the best services and support at an early stage. The researchers, writing in the Journal of Neuroscience, studied 20 healthy adults, 20 adults with ASD, and 19 adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which shares some symptoms with ASD.

After being diagnosed by traditional methods - including an IQ test, psychiatric interview and physical examination - the scientists used the brain scanning technique as a comparison. The team first used an MRI scanner to take pictures of the brain.Work has had to be halted on part of the multi-million-pound revamp of the Usher Hall after a blunder meant plans were drawn up to pour reinforced concrete on top of power cables.
