That area was too dangerous for investigators to enter.
- Posted at 12:11 AM on 11/19/2011 by dhrt That area was too dangerous for investigators to enter. Many of the patients were later left in the open on beds and in wheelchairs until they could be transported to alternative accommodation. "This is a firefighter's worst nightmare," Mullins said. "Turning up to a nursing home with elderly people who can't get themselves out of harm's way." Flames raced through the ceiling, and part of the roof of a wing collapsed. Police confirmed that three patients were dead, including two whose bodies remained in the charred ruins of a room where one of the fires started. That area was too dangerous for investigators to enter. Later, police reported a fourth death among 15 patients who had been admitted to intensive care units ¡ª specialized wards for the sickest of patients where machines keep them breathing. Police said five of the 15 suffered severe burns. No staff members at the nursing home were injured. Federal Minister for Mental Health and Aging Mark Butler said the nursing home's fire safety systems were found to meet standards during an audit in July. Smith, the assistant fire commissioner, said the facility did not have sprinklers but was not required by law to have such a fire safety system. "The reason there's not more fatalities is the tremendous work of the emergency workers getting there very quickly ... and rescuing those patients very quickly," Smith said. Neighbor Don Cook, who shares a fence with the nursing home, was among the first on the scene to see patients carried out. "The old people, a lot of them seemed to be staring into space ¡ª they didn't know what was going on," Cook told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio. "To me, a lot of them looked bewildered." Firefighters described the blaze as Sydney's worst since 16 patients died in a nursing home fire in suburban Sylvania Heights in 1981. coach outlet online.Coach outlet store online.www.canadagoose2012.net.Coach outlet online

The British are not members of the currency union.
- Posted at 12:02 AM on 11/19/2011 by dhrt The British are not members of the currency union. Cameron said last week that "if the leaders of the eurozone want to save their currency then they ¡ª together with the institutions of the eurozone ¡ª must act now." Britain is a member of the European Union but doesn't use the euro. Cameron's party is deeply skeptical about European integration. Merkel insists that there's no single quick-fix solution to the crisis. She has rejected the idea of jointly backed "eurobonds" and suggestions that the European Central Bank should step in with massive bond purchases to reduce the lending costs of countries such as Italy. Merkel also wants to introduce a tax on financial transactions in Europe ¡ª an idea that has wide political support in Germany but, with prospects of a wider global agreement thin, cuts little ice with Britain. A senior Merkel ally voiced frustration earlier this week. "The British are not members of the currency union, but they are members in Europe ¡ª and they too bear responsibility for Europe succeeding," Volker Kauder, the parliamentary leader of her conservative bloc, said at a party conference. " Only looking for their own advantage and not being prepared to put anything in themselves ¡ª that can't be a message that we let the British get away with," he added. Merkel herself has sounded conciliatory, saying in a speech on Thursday that Cameron was right to focus on tackling Britain's debt when he took office last year. She also has insisted that she doesn't want to see the 17-nation eurozone and the full 27-member EU grow apart in the crisis. Merkel said that issue requires "a great deal of political sensitivity." "We want a Europe with Great Britain, we want a Europe with a strong Poland of course," she said, referring to another large EU country outside the euro.

After stepping down last year.
- Posted at 11:56 PM on 11/18/2011 by dhrt After stepping down last year. The Commission on Election on Friday filed election fraud charges, which carry a penalty of 40 years imprisonment. Arroyo legal spokesman Raul Lambino said the case against her has been fabricated. "Personally I am for re-registration," Suu Kyi said in her speech to the delegates, gathered at the party headquarters in Yangon. "This is a high form of injustice," Lambino said. The charges stem from allegations that Arroyo conspired with officials to tamper with results of 2007 congressional polls to favor her candidates. After stepping down last year, Arroyo, 64, was elected to the House of Representatives and immediately faced at least half a dozen complaints, also alleging she diverted state funds for her campaign effort and benefited from foreign contracts. The Justice Department is still investigating the other complaints. Arroyo would be the second Philippine president to face trial, after her predecessor, Joseph Estrada, was toppled in a 2001 military-backed revolt on corruption charges and sentenced to life. He was later pardoned by Arroyo. BERLIN (AP) ¡ª The German and British leaders meet Friday amid tensions over efforts to resolve the eurozone debt crisis and the future of the European Union. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose country has Europe's biggest economy, has been a leading player in efforts to resolve the 17-nation eurozone's crisis that have often been criticized as too hesitant. British Prime Minister David Cameron travels to Berlin as Merkel seeks support for changes to European Union treaties that are meant to strengthen the eurozone but would need all 27 EU members' approval ¡ª a potentially long and messy process. www.coachoutletstore194l.com.coach outlet online.coach outlet.coach factory outlet
