Tim Cook and Samsung CEO Choi Gee-sung Meeting Today to Discuss Patent Issues iPhone 4S Cases
Following last month's announcement that Apple iPhone 4S Cases and Samsung had agreed to high-level talks involving the two companies' CEOs in an attempt to resolve ongoing patent litigation, Reuters provides a preview of the session set to begin today in San Francisco. The talks, which will be mediated by a federal judge, are scheduled to take place over the next two days.
Commenting before his departure to the United States for the talks, Samsung mobile division chief JK Shin noted that while significant differences between Apple and Samsung still exist, a number of "negotiation options" remain on the table.
"There is still a big gap in the patent war with Apple," JK Shin said, before departing for the United States for the mediation talks. "But we still have several negotiation options."
Court documents show the two companies have had at least one mediation session, although it is not clear if Cook and Choi were involved.
Legal experts are not optimistic that the two companies will reach a settlement, but with courts increasingly pushing companies to seek alternative dispute resolution processes in hopes of staving off drawn-out court battles, Apple iPhone 4S Cases and Samsung have agreed to participate in the talks.
Samsung is just one of Apple's main targets in its patent battles with Android-based hardware manufacturers. In another case, Apple succeeded in slowing U.S. imports of several HTC smartphones earlier this month, forcing the company to delay the launch of the Evo 4G LTE on Sprint although HTC has indicated that some shipments of some models are being released by U.S. Customs.
But while Apple's iPhone 4S Cases disputes with several Android device manufacturers center on functionality of the devices, the company's dispute with Samsung extends further to claims that Samsung has "chosen to slavishly copy" the design of Apple's products with its own line of Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Google Working On Wireless Home Entertainment System
Google is developing a wireless home entertainment system designed to stream music throughout the home, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The system would be marketed under Google's brand and would be based on Google's Android platform. Google has sold a few items under its own name, but has never designed consumer electronics hardware itself. The Google Nexus phone, for example, was made by Designer iPhone 4 Cases.
Google's Android unit has led a multi-year effort to develop the new entertainment device, which may possibly stream other digital media besides music and is expected to be unveiled later this Chanel iPad 2 Cases, people familiar with the matter said.
The new device, along with Google's pending purchase of device maker Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc., shows how serious the Internet giant is about wanting to control both the software and hardware process, a formula used by rival Apple Inc.
The system would allow users to download music and stream it to Google-branded wireless speakers or other compatible devices. The system sounds somewhat similar to those made by Sonos, which the New York Times examined in a recent article.
The WSJ gave no indication as to a time-frame for the public announcement or on-sale date for the Google home entertainment products. Gucci iPad 2 Cases has a somewhat similar living room strategy, though the company no longer makes any home speaker products -- instead, Apple uses its AirPlay, Airport Express and Apple TV products as part of its push into the living room. However, in recent months the company has been rumored to be working on a full-fledged television set. |

Analyst: OS X and iOS to become one in 2012

It all started with the original iPhone, the phone that changed it all due (to a large part) to a modified OS X version which didn’t even have a name of its own back in January of 2007. Four years later we have Mac App Store, Apple’s online bazaar for Mac software, and Lion, the latest Mac operating system with iPad-like gestures, full screen apps and instant-on performance. What happens next year is Apple merges OS X and iOS into a single operating system, Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek tells Barron’s:
We believe Apple is looking to merge iOS (iPhones/iPads) with OS X (Macs) into a single platform for apps and cloud services starting in 2012-13.
Misek says Apple will kickstart the transition with a 2012-2013 MacBook Air, and complete the switch by 2016 with the Mac Pro and iMac family. He is speculating that a next-generation MacBook Air will run Apple’s quad-core A6 chip, turning the company into “the first such multi-device platform capable of PC-like strength”. Of course, we’ve head rumors about Apple testing an ARM-based MacBook Air and other analysts have called for ARM-based Macs in 2012. Misek’s thoughts also correspond with Jean-Louis Gassée’s interesting observation that Apple-designed chips based on ARM blueprints and ultra-thin MacBook Air designs are the future of Macs. But what are the benefits of merging OS X and iOS into a unified operating system?
According to Misek, it’ll help Apple negotiate more favorable and broader licensing agreements related to streaming premium entertainment content to people using their mobile devices and computers. “Users want to be able to pick up any iPhone, iPad, or Mac (or turn on their iTV) and have content move seamlessly between them and be optimized for the user and the device currently being used. We believe this will be difficult to implement if iOS and OS X are kept separate”, the analyst argues. We’d add that a unified platform would greatly expand the addressable market for developers who’d no doubt be required to learn new tools in order to write universal apps that scale cleverly from the iPhone’s screen to the 27-inch iMac. The process is already underway, mind you. At this year’s WWDC, one of the sessions included new ways of constructing interfaces in third-party Mac software. The process calls for advanced padding relations between the individual user interface elements that ensure apps look great regardless of the user’s screen resolution.
Finally, this idea of OS X/iOS merger shouldn’t be viewed as outrageous. When Steve Jobs in March of 2001 introduced Mac OS X v10.0 code-named Cheetah – the company’s initial version of the software for public consumption – he dubbed it Apple’s new operating system “for the next decade”. Well, that decade has passed and if history is any indication, Apple will reboot OS X and its users will once again participate in a major transition. Let’s not forget that Microsoft too is moving towards a single operating system – Windows 8 – said to scale from smartphones to tablets to desktop computers and servers while supporting both ARM and x86 architectures.iPhone 4 Cases|iPhone 4 Covers|Designer iPhone 4 Cases |

Samsung confirms launch delay of Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia ¡°in light of the current legal proceed

Samsung today issued the following statement announcing its planned Galaxy Tab 10.1 launch event in Australia has been postponed, citing legal spat with Apple (via Gizmodo):
In light of the current legal proceedings by Apple Inc. against Samsung Electronics Australia, Samsung regrets to announce it will be postponing its media launch event, scheduled for 11th August 2011, for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The company will announce a new date for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 media launch event “as soon as practicable”. It’s another PR blow for Samsung Mobile which has thus far confused the press with inconsistent messages about the Australia situation…iPhone 5 Screen Protector
First they said they wouldn’t be selling the tablet in the country until their legal dispute with Apple is settled or they win court approval. The following day the company launched into the offensive mode, re-affirming plans to ship a modified version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia. That statement underscored that Apple’s complaint with the Federal Court of Australia involved a Galaxy Tab 10.1 variant they had had no plans of selling in Australia. Meanwhile, it’s business as usual for Samsung’s US branch which is holding a presser in New York this morning to announce a “major” software update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1.Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Cases|Chanel iPhone 4 Cases|Gucci iPhone 4 cases|LV iPhone 4 Cases |

Apple, Google, Samsung (and everyone else) eyeing InterDigital patents

Over the past few weeks, the patent arms race has been accelerating and the latest comes in aBloomberg story that has old frenemies – Apple, Google and Samsung – locked in a fight for InterDigital’s patent portfolio. Samsung is said to be interested the most in InterDigita’s intellectual property their CEO claims is “stronger” than the 6,000 Nortel patents the Apple-led consortium recently acquired for $4.5 billion. People familiar with the matter tell the publication Samsung has been “approached to make a bid”:
Samsung is looking at the patents along with Apple Inc. (AAPL), Google Inc. (GOOG) and other potential bidders, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. InterDigital, which holds patents related to mobile technologies used to transfer information, said last month that it hired bankers as it considers a sale.
InterDigital’s patent portfolio covers technology for high-speed cellphone networks “now used by the world’s biggest handset makers”, including Apple’s iPhone as well as BlackBerry and Android phones. The portfolio includes 8,000 patents in total and is estimated to be worth $5 billion or more. “To hedge the risk, Samsung could go ahead with bidding, although they may have to pay a big premium”, says Shinyoung Securities Co. analyst Lee Seung Woo.
Kodak on Monday put ten percent of its patent portfolio, or 1,100 patents, on sale, among them the image-previewing patent Apple and Research In Motion are being sued for. Google is fresh offacquiring 1,100 patents from IBM after they had lost the Nortel bid. HTC paid $300 million for S3 Graphics (really its patents) to gain some leverage in their pending lawsuit with Apple. Cynics might observe that patent holders around the world are looking to cash in on pending lawsuits as everyone is suing everyone in the mobile space.iPhone 5 Cases|iPhone 5 Covers|iPhone 5 Screen Protector|

iPad gains redesigned, more touch-friendly HTML5 version of Twitter.com

As pointed out by TechCrunch, Twitter is rolling out a new Twitter.com interface for the iPad. Up until now, the iPad browser has utilized the full version of Twitter.com (user option) that is typically displayed on Macs and PCs or an upscaled mobile variant.
This new HTML5 interface is more touch friendly and resembles Twitter’s fairly new web interface for the iPhone and iPod touch. According to Twitter’s official profile, the rollout of the new interface begins today and should complete over the next week or so.iPad 2 Cases|Louis Vuitton iPad 2 Cases|Chanel iPad 2 Cases|Gucci iPad 2 Cases |

This is how a 4.7-inch iPhone 5 would measure up against 3.5-inch iPhone 4

In case you haven¡¯t noticed, a rumored Fall release of iPhone 5 is being preceded by the usual media brouhaha. Is Apple going to release its next handset in September? How about October? Maybe they¡¯ll gradually bring the device to market over the course of both months? Has the company already field-tested the gizmo in June? And if the phone is already in production, how come carriers are only now getting prototypes in sealed boxes? Do case leaks mean a ringer switch has been repositioned to the opposite side? And what¡¯s with those iPhone 4 price cuts at Target and Radioshack and AT&T vacation blackouts?
Disregarding all of the above for a second, what exactly about Apple¡¯s fifth-generation iPhone is going to blow our socks off the most? If you ask Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu, it¡¯s the large display combined with an even thinner profile than iPhone 4:
It turns out that we are picking up that this interim iPhone refresh in the Fall timeframe could be a bigger upgrade than we expected. We believe this makes sense to improve the iPhone experience without making it too bulky as we have seen with models from competitors.
But what exactly is ¡®bulky¡¯ these days? Are we talking a few millimeters larger display or ¡®Android superphone bulky¡¯? Italian-language MelaBlog.it did a cool side-by-side comparison of the current-generation iPhone 4¡äs 3.5-inch display and the rumored iPhone 5 at various display dimensions. An iPhone 5 with a 4.3-inch display would require a frame wider and taller ten millimeters than that of the iPhone 4, while keeping the same 9.3 millimeter profile. Reducing the display edges ¡°to a minimum¡± - that¡¯s an edge-to-edge display for you ¨C could allow Apple to engineer a monstrous 4.7-inch device, as depicted in the above drawing. There¡¯s just one problem, though¡
A 4.5-inch display with a 960-by-640 pixel resolution ¨C the same as iPhone 4¡äs ¨C may no longer qualify as Retina-capable. As defined by Apple, a Retina Display is any display with a pixel density of at least 300 pixels-per-inch (iPhone 4¡äs is 326ppi), ¡°so high, your eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels¡±. A 4.5-inch display with the 960-by-640 pixel resolution held at ten inches away would sport a pixel density of 250ppi, well below the Retina Display¡¯s 300ppi threshold. Unless, of course, Apple has decided to introduce a new screen resolution with iPhone 5 which would seem unlikely.iPhone 5 Screen Protector|Gucci iPhone 5 Cases|Chanel iPhone 5 Cases
