Ingredients...Are You Getting Your Money's Worth?BY:SCOTT LUO/OCT 17,2011Have you ever purchased commercial lotions or soaps that claimed to contain natural ingredients or some other moisturizer only to determine that you've wasted your money? If you said yes to this question, you're not alone. The commercial cosmetics industry list natural ingredients of aloe vera and here lately shea butter on their product labels to satisfy the consumers quest for natural products. You may even pay more for the inclusion of natural ingredients, but are you getting your money's worth Keep the following in mind when purchasing products that make specific claims on the label: 1) The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act requires that ingredients be listed in descending order of quantity. This means which ever ingredient makes up the bulk of the product should be listed first; therefore, If you're looking for a shea butter product, look for that ingredient towards the top of the ingredient list. 2) Natural means that ingredients are extracted directly from plants or animal products as opposed to being produced synthetically. Supposedly there is no proof that natural ingredients are better for the skin, but I can certainly tell the difference when using all natural bath oil verses the 100% mineral oil (a synthetic derived from petroleum), I've used in the past. 3) Hypoallergenic on cosmetic labeling claims the product will most likely not cause a allergic reaction. When you read terms "dermatologist-tested," "nonirritating," and other statements that imply the product has been tested isn't a guarantee that you won't have an allergic reaction. 4) Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and beta hydroxy acids (BHA) are the ingredients used in products that claim to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Always use caution when applying these ingredients by testing a small area first to determine if a reaction will occur. You should also avoid the sun and use a sunscreen when using AHA. 5) Soap as you know it, is actually a snythetic detergent bar regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and is not required to meet FDA regulations unless it claims to do something other than cleanse. If the soap claims to be a deodorant soap it is considered cosmetic and must abide by FDA regulations. If it reduces dandruff or makes some other medical claim it must be considered a drug, carry the required drug labeling and also meet FDA safety and effectiveness requirements. I've used handmade soaps for some time and don't experience the skin dryness as when I've used commercial soaps. This is because handmade soaps retain natural glycerin, a humectant which attracts moisture to your skin, whereas the commercial soaps remove the glycerin to use in more profitable products. Keep in mind that typically handmade bath and body products contain a higher percentage of natural ingredients. Whether you purchase commercial or "natural" products, I encourage you to shop around as all products are not created equal. Know what to look for regarding ingredients and how they are listed to determine if you are getting your money's worth. Take into consideration how the product makes your skin feel, does it dry your skin or does it feel soft and moisturized. This article is not meant to bash commercial products, but should serve to help you make an informed decision concerning products and what you're actually getting. Properly maintaining your lenses is basically broken down into two categories, and these are disinfection and cleaning. Failing to do either of these things can lead to severe consequences for the health of your eyes. When you clean your lenses, you want to use a special cleaner in order to remove dirt and debris. Disinfecting the lenses will keep them clear of harmful bacteria which can cause your eyes to become infected. To clean your contacts, you will first want to take them out of your eyes and place them onto your hands. Now you want to take you cleaning solution and place small drops on the lenses. After this, take your index finger and rub the lenses lightly so that they are not scratched. When you take the cleaner off the contacts, you want to make sure you use a solution which is recommended by the manufacturer. It is best to avoid using tap water. Tap water contains bacteria which could be very harmful if it gets into your eyes. Once you've done this, your contact lenses will be cleaned, but they also need to be sterilized. To sterilize your contacts, they will have to be placed in a case. The case will then need to be filled with a disinfecting agent. It will typically take four hours for the contacts to become completely sterilized. Because of this, many people sterilize their contacts prior to going to bed. When you care for your contacts, it is also important to remove proteins from the surface of the lenses. If you are wearing contact lenses for the first time, you may be wandering how to tell which way your lenses are facing when you remove them. You can do this by placing the lens on one finger with the cup facing upward. Hold the lens in front of you, and if it is has the shape of a "U", this means it is facing the right side, and is ready to be inserted. Some companies mark their contacts with a laser, and this is another way to determine if they are on the right side. It is important to never share you contact lenses with others. Contacts are medical tools, and as such should only be worn by the person they are prescribed to. They will not fit anyone else, and it is not good hygiene to share them with others. You or those you share your lenses with could get an infection which is dangerous. Answering uncomfortable interview questions![]() BY;SCOTT LUO/SEPT 10,2011 NEWS:http://www.wow77.com (wow gold) (CareerBuilder.com) -- Keeping one's cool when an interview chair turns into a hot seat can be difficult. Here are some examples of zingers thrown at candidates, and how some of them responded: "My friends and I have been asked several times what we would do if we got pregnant. Our answer: 'I can't have children. I'm infertile.' It always sets the interviewer on his (never asked this by a woman) heels. We decided that in the event that we did get the job and did get pregnant, we would cast it as a 'miracle' -- and just be joyous with everyone about the heavenly news!" -- Rebecca Raibley, Massachusetts "I am a proud American but have a slight accent. When they ask me where I was born and I tell them, they say, 'Oops, we just remembered we have no openings currently.' So I've concluded that answering their illegal question will never get me a job, but if I refuse to answer it or tell them it's illegal, that will not get me the job either. Quite a conundrum." -- Mo Abraham, St. Louis "I was asked, 'Isn't [my past boss] a jerk?' Obviously, I wanted to take the high road, and I wasn't sure why the interviewer asked that question. So I responded, 'He certainly makes an impression,' and changed the subject. Since no further questions were asked along those lines, I think it was a test -- maybe of quick thinking under pressure, maybe to see if I would dish dirt. Either way, never say anything negative about a past employer." -- Marilyn Santiesteban, Boston "An interviewer once asked me to which charities I donated. I was uncomfortable with this question, as it seems quite personal. Donations are often based on personal criteria: health experience, politics, religion and other individual ideologies. I don't believe people should be 'qualified' by the groups of their choice." -- Lisa Hanock-Jasie, New York "I was asked in an interview once, 'How do you get along with your mother?' I responded, 'If you're trying to find out whether I can work well for a female boss, you can just ask me that. If you were my friend, I wouldn't mind answering. But since this is an interview, I find that question inappropriate.'" Link:http://www.flywowgold.com (wow gold) -- Dez Stephens, Nashville, Tennessee Reacting Coming up with a response isn't always easy when the voice inside you is screaming, "Why the heck is he asking me that?" While panic, anger and confusion are typical responses to uncomfortable questions, checking emotions is crucial to getting the interview back on track. The interviewer may be trying to judge your confidence level and how you handle pressure. Steven Roy Goodman, an educational consultant and career strategist in Washington, D.C., advises his clients to answer inappropriate interview questions by politely saying, "That question makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. Would you mind if we talked about how specifically I might be able to work with department X of company Y?" Candidates who have experienced uncomfortable interview questions on a certain topic may wish to practice suitable responses ahead of time. For instance, if a gap in employment seems to be an issue, be ready to talk about the skills you acquired or the contributions you made as a volunteer during that time. Unfortunately, some interviewers persist in areas they shouldn't. "Obvious off-limit topics are family situation, age, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual preference, race or any questions that lead to more knowledge about the candidate through related questions -- such as, 'Will you need to make any special arrangements for family members should you be hired?' or, 'Have you ever missed work for illness or injury?'" says Terry Henley, director of compensation services at Employers Resource Association, a nonprofit serving small and medium-sized businesses in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. In this situation, Henley recommends that candidates say that they aren't comfortable discussing the topic and then think about whether they wish to continue the interview. "If the applicant is certain that the question is illegal, he can tell the interviewer, understanding that it will probably mean that the interview will end soon and not end up in employment." Filing charges with a state or federal agency is an option if a well-qualified candidate feels certain that the only reason he was denied the position was because of being a member of a protected class, but Henley cautions that "the likelihood for success in filing such a claim in these circumstances is low." While candidates have little to no control over what questions an interviewer chooses to ask, they do have power over something important: their own response. So set the tone that you've come to discuss why you're the best person for the job -- and nothing else. BY:SCOTT LUO/Main article:http://www.flywowgold.com (wow gold)
Atkinson, Illinois (CNN) -- President Barack Obama expressed confidence Wednesday that America will ultimately overcome its current economic woes but once again blamed a dysfunctional, excessively partisan political system for hampering recovery efforts.
"Don't bet against America," Obama told a crowd at an agricultural plant in his home state of Illinois. "We have gone through tougher times than this before." But "there is something wrong with our politics," the president said. Washington needs to "stop drawing lines in the sand" and "worry more about the next generation than the next election."
Obama renewed his call for Congress to extend the current payroll tax cut, boost infrastructure spending, pass a series of stalled trade bills and enact patent reform, among other things He also kept up pressure on Republicans to accept what the White House has characterized as a more balanced approach to long-term deficit reduction, embracing both spending cuts and revenue increases.
"If everybody took an attitude of shared sacrifice ... we can solve our deficit and debt problem next week, and it wouldn't require radical changes," he said.Obama's remarks came at a town hall meeting in Atkinson, Illinois, near the end of a three-day bus tour through the politically pivotal Midwest. Obama made stops in Iowa and Minnesota earlier in the week.
The trip, according to administration officials, was planned primarily to promote rural economic development initiatives. It has, however, often taken on the feel of an early re-election push. Over the past three days, Obama has repeatedly blasted Republican congressional critics for allegedly putting partisan political concerns before the country's interests.
He reiterated that point late Wednesday afternoon in the farming community of Alpha, Illinois. A John Deere tractor beside him and a cornfield behind, Obama said "the biggest challenge we have is in Washington."Saying the country needs balance in its tax policy, Obama said there is "nothing socialist" about top wage-earners paying a higher tax rate.
He also said people should be unhappy with politics, not the government. He cited soldiers, astronauts, food inspectors and emergency responders as examples of important government service. The president is planning to roll out new job growth and deficit reduction plans immediately after Labor Day, according to a senior administration official.
Though Obama's ideas are likely to receive a rocky reception in the GOP-controlled House of Representatives, analysts on both sides of the aisle expect the shaky economy to dominate next year's presidential race. The unemployment rate in July was 9.1%, with about 14 million Americans out of work. Unemployment has not fallen below 8.8% since March 2009, two months into Obama's presidency, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
During an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday afternoon in Peosta, Iowa, Obama accused congressional Republicans of standing in the way of compromises necessary for stronger economic growth. The president said the inability of GOP leaders in Congress to support a recent $4 trillion deficit reduction deal focused more heavily on spending cuts than revenue increases is evidence of a party placing political considerations before national interests.
"The fact that Speaker (John) Boehner and folks in his caucus couldn't say yes to that (deficit deal) tells me that they're more interested in the politics ... than they are in solving the problem," Obama said.Republicans have blasted the president's Midwest swing, calling it a thinly disguised campaign trip.
Obama is "spending taxpayers' dollars on a bus tour disguised as some kind of economic event for the country when we all know that it's a campaign event paid for by the taxpayers," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus said Monday.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a GOP presidential front-runner, has dubbed the presidential trip the "Magical Misery Tour." The first family is scheduled to depart for a vacation in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, on Thursday.

BY:SCOTT LUO/AUG 13 ,2011
(CNN) -- Armed plainclothesmen broke up anti-government demonstrations with gunfire after weekly prayers in the Syrian city of Hama on Friday, opposition activists said, while government troops extended their clampdown to another town nearby. Three opposition groups -- the Local Coordination Committees of Syria, Avaaz and the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights -- each reported that 15 people were killed Friday in Syria.
Because the government has restricted international journalists from reporting in Syria, CNN was not able to independently confirm the death tallies. Government troops moved into the town of Khan Sheikhoun, north of Hama, opposition activists and human rights groups said. Syria's state-run SANA news agency reported that the troops were fighting armed gangs in the embattled northwest province of Idlib, an acknowledgment by President Bashar al-Assad's government of military operations that human rights groups allege have resulted in the killings of civilians.
At least one woman was killed in clashes between demonstrators and Syrian forces, who rolled into Khan Sheikhoun at dawn with tanks and armored personnel carriers, according to the Observatory for Human Rights, which cited reports from opposition activists in the city. The identities of the opposition activists were withheld by the rights group at their request out of concerns for their safety. And in Hama, where military units withdrew earlier this week, busloads of plainclothes security forces opened fire to break up anti-government protests after Friday prayers at local mosques, an opposition activist there told CNN. There were reports of casualties, but their number and severity were unknown, he said.
The activist said several volleys of gunfire were used to disperse worshippers at a mosque he attended. He and another witness said similar incidents had occurred at several other mosques. The second witness said that, as soon as the imam at his mosque finished prayers, he heard gunshots and thugs cursing and making threats.
"They were making sure no one demonstrates," he said. As people left the mosque, "the security forces started detaining left and right."He said a cousin told him one person was killed. Activists took to the streets again in Homs, despite the killing on Wednesday and Thursday of more than two dozen residents there, activists said. Videos showed the determination and defiance of the demonstrators. One video showed demonstrators being shot at by security forces, then regrouping and returning to the streets.
In Syria's second-largest city, Aleppo, video posted on YouTube showed what appeared to be protesters carrying a wounded comrade to safety.Outside Damascus, in Harasta, another video showed demonstrators fleeing gunfire. Al-Assad is under increasing pressure from the West and from fellow Arab states to halt the clampdown. The United States has has stopped short of explicit calls for him to step down, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday that al-Assad "has lost the legitimacy to lead, and it is clear that Syria would be better off without him."
"We urge those countries still buying Syrian oil and gas, those countries still sending Assad weapons, those countries whose political and economic support give him comfort in his brutality, to get on the right side of history," Clinton told reporters in Washington. Oil and gas make up about a quarter of the Syria's economy, according to the International Monetary Fund. In addition, Clinton said the United States and its allies are trying to help opposition groups "create a unified vision of what an inclusive participatory democratic system in Syria could look like."
The conflict in Syria erupted five months ago when Syrian forces suppressed protests in the southern city of Daraa. Anti-government fervor caught on nationwide as more protests were met with tougher crackdowns. By Wednesday, the death toll had reached 2,417, including more than 2,000 civilians, said the Local Coordination Committees of Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the toll at 2,182.
Friday's fighting in Khan Sheikhoun was reported just hours after SANA, the news agency, said security had been restored in Hama. But the Syrian Observatory said armored personnel carriers and machine guns mounted on vehicles remained in the Hama late Thursday, and 27 people have been detained. In June, thousands of residents of another town in Idlib province fled their homes for Turkey after Syrian troops moved in. The latest operations in the province have renewed fears that others may again cross the border to escape the five-month-old crisis.
One person was killed during a military raid in Saqba, on the outskirts of Damascus, the Syrian Observatory said, citing reports from opposition activists in the city. In northern Syria, about 200 people were arrested Thursday in Saraqib after troops seized the city, according to the Syrian Observatory group, which cited reports from opposition activists in the city. 6:42 PM - 8/12/2011Task Force Spartan combat engineers keep the roads safe with new technologies
Editor:SCOTT LUO/WOW77 NEWS AUG 9 ,2011
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Aug. 5, 2011 -- A combat engineer companys standard mission on deployment is route clearance. Typically, a route clearance mission consists of patrolling roads in the brigades area of operations and clearing them of improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, before a convoy uses the road. The purpose of a route clearance patrol, or RCP, is to allow other units to accomplish their mission without obstacles or unnecessary injury or enemy contact.
Due to the unique mission requirements in 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Divisions area of operations, Spartan combat engineers in Alpha Company, 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, have adapted to meet the requirements of Kandahar province, Afghanistan.
Instead of being an RCP for example, many of the combat engineers are being attached to infantry units on dismounted patrols and using new technologies to clear the route ahead of the unit. In Iraq, I did RCP, so I was mounted all the time, said Spc. David Reynolds, a combat engineer and Doking operator in Alpha Company, 3rd BSTB. Coming here and being dismounted, there is definitely a lot more to do.
The Doking MD4, a tracked vehicle which looks similar to a miniature armored personnel carrier, is operated with a remote control by a Soldier following the vehicle either on foot or in an armored vehicle. By putting the Doking before the patrol, the chances of a Soldier stepping on an IED are decreased drastically.
Its one of the Armys remote operated arsenals. Its a robot with separate attachments, said Sgt. Adonys Lendof, squad leader in Alpha Company, 3rd BSTB. It has a flail, a mine roller, and a blade, and we use it to clear in front of us, so we are not actually stepping on any IEDs. The Doking is about three feet high and about seven feet long. The engineers have four in their inventory that they can use every time a battalion in the Spartan brigade requests its presence on a patrol.
It hasnt hit any (IEDs) yet, but it keeps us and the infantry from being the first ones down the route, said Lendof. Alpha Company Soldiers have a standard way of completing their mission as a team. We take our whole squad (on mission), Lendof said. The Doking is in the front, the operator behind it with his security detail, and another engineer behind that with a mine detector.
The Soldiers are still adapting to their new mission in Afghanistan, and even though they are effectively using the equipment to clear roads of IEDs, most of them had never even seen the Doking until they deployed last March. However, they quickly learned how to use the equipment, and are glad for the added safety it brings them and other Spartan Soldiers. I didnt even know it existed until we got here, but its pretty easy to get the hang of, said Pfc. Nate Oncea, a combat engineer in Alpha Company, 3rd BSTB. (I) feel a lot safer walking down a route after [the Doking] has been down it.
Alpha Company Soldiers play an important role in the overall Spartan mission in Afghanistan, and their new equipment is helping them accomplish that mission. We are providing mobility, counter-mobility (and) survivability to the infantry, Oncea said proudly of his mission in Afghanistan.

Cairo (CNN) -- He was once a powerful symbol of autocracy in the Arab world, but Wednesday, a frail Hosni Mubarak was wheeled into a Cairo courtroom cage to face trial for allegedly ordering the killing of anti-government protesters.
Dressed in a white prison uniform, Mubarak, 83, was placed in a mesh and iron cage, a standard procedure in Egyptian criminal trials. The former leader, who also faces charges of corruption, peered between the bars, identified himself and denied any culpability. "All the things that have been said are not true," he said.
It was a jaw-dropping moment, leaving many incredulous at the sight of the former dictator stripped of his power, the first of the targets of this year's Arab Spring to face justice. If convicted, Mubarak could be punished with death. Arab media described it as the "trial of the century." People all over the region were glued to televisions and radios for news of the proceedings.
It garnered an array of reactions from the Egyptian people as other embattled leaders in the region -- among them Libya's Moammar Gadhafi, Syria's Bashar al-Assad and Yemen's Ali Abdullah Saleh -- watched closely the fate of one of their own. Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, deposed before Mubarak in January, fled to Saudi Arabia and was tried in absentia.
"Every dictator in the region is watching this in total fear, thinking he could be next," said Egyptian journalist Mona Eltahawy. "And all the citizens in the region, ordinary people in the Arab or Middle East or North Africa, are thinking 'we wish we could put our tyrants on trial.'"
Mubarak, his much despised interior minister, Habib El Adly, and six of the latter's assistants face trial on the same charges. Also facing charges are Mubarak's sons, Gamal and Alaa. Mubarak will return to court August 15, when his trial resumes. Legal proceedings will continue Friday when El Adly appears before the judge.
Seeing the once Pharoah-like Mubarak reduced to a crippled man in a cage could garner some sympathy for him, said Barak Barfi, a researcher with the New America Foundation. Mubarak arrived in Cairo after a short trip from his hospital in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh aboard a medically equipped military aircraft. A white helicopter took him to the police academy on the outskirts of Cairo where the proceedings were held. Opponents and supporters gathered at dawn to await the trial of the strongman who ruled Egypt for three decades.
As the helicopter hovered before landing at the police academy, the crowd went wild. Some darted in its direction and clapped. Mubarak's trial represents vindication for Egyptians who suffered under his rule and, more recently, those who lost loved ones who protested on the streets for his ouster. Many had awaited eagerly for Mubarak's moment of humiliation.
